First of all – I’m not a writer so please don’t expect too much literary genius out of me. see, I told you.
From the beginning:
Nate and Ty are Students at the U of U and were enrolled in Summer School, Their Dad Gary is Retired and ready for Adventure, and I am always looking for ways to get on a bike tour. Two and a half weeks ago at a family party I convinced them to go on a bike trip from Canada to Mexico instead of school, and my wife allowed me to go with them for the first 2-3 weeks. fast forward to now.
The Vanvrankens did most of the planning, and I showed up. They planned to take the Amtrak, and I thought that sounded cool since I had never been through the Sierras via train. 2-3 days of train travel seems less intense than it really is, we are 1.5 days into it and would have flown if we had to do it again. Don’t get me wrong, we are having a blast and are loving it anyways. 3 days to get somewhere that could take 3 hours – don’t do it unless you want the experience. We packed most of our warm clothes in boxes that we have checked – and would have definitely dressed warmer for the train, it has been really cold.
We plan on starting our tour on Monday afternoon in Vancouver Canada, then riding down the San Juan islands. We will make it over to the coast, then just ride down until Tijuana. Should take about 6 weeks.
What would you like to hear about the trip?

Looks like the Team Astana truck needs a new lock, of maybe they need to back it up against a wall or something. Lance Armstrong need not be without his beloved TT Bike. Well, it’s back now so no harm done.
Funny that one of the papers quoted that it was worth about $10,000. How much would that go for on Ebay? Probably worth $50K+ to Lance.
I just need to negotiate now with Trek to make me a one and only numbered bike for my rides to work and back, maybe the Trek commuto 1357. When I make bikes, I will definitely take such requests.

Off to another Bicycle Tradeshow. I spend a bit of time traveling around to tradeshows and looking for cool new product to sell. I like it, and it keeps me in touch with all the cool stuff that is coming out.
I’m definitely somewhat of a ghetto traveler, and hate expenses. I just hate to spend 10 bucks a hour to sleep. When on my own I don’t feel bad at all about sleeping at the airport when I get in too late, or gambling with priceline on where I need to stay, and where the best offer puts me. I guess some all of this has to do with my need for adventure, however odd it may be. This time in Minneapolis, I ended up a mile away from where I needed to be, I’ll take it.
As the main buyer for bikewagon, and I guess these quirks help us get cheap bike parts for the site, that can’t be bad…
Let’s see what I find this weekend. Always feel free to make suggestions on an item you need, If we end up carrying it I will get you the first one for CHEAP. email me at dale@bikewagon.com for any suggestions, or you can just comment here.
